FAQ

Questions about becoming a Mentor

Everything you need to know about the Mentor Doula role.

We require 6+ years of active birth doula experience with a strong track record of positive client outcomes. You should be passionate about teaching, have excellent communication skills, and be available for on-call support during your mentees' births.

You earn a commission on each birth your mentees attend, typically 10-15% of the contract fee. With multiple mentees attending several births per month, this can add up to significant income—all while reducing your own physical attendance at births.

You choose your capacity. Some mentors work with 2-3 mentees to keep things manageable; others take on 6-8 for more income. We'll never assign you more mentees than you're comfortable with.

Expect 2-4 hours per week per mentee for check-ins and guidance, plus on-call availability during their births. You won't attend births physically (unless you choose to for teaching purposes), so the schedule is more flexible than attending births yourself.

Absolutely! Many Mentor Doulas maintain a small personal caseload alongside their mentoring. You control your own balance—some focus entirely on mentoring, others take 1-2 personal clients per month.

You'll join our Mentor Doula community with monthly peer calls, shared resources, and support from TBC leadership. We also provide training on effective mentorship techniques and handle all administrative aspects of your mentees' client relationships.

You'll guide your mentee through challenging situations via phone/text. In rare cases requiring in-person backup, we have a network ready to step in. We also have protocols for when to involve medical professionals, ensuring safety always comes first.

Yes! Since mentorship is primarily phone/video-based, many of our Mentor Doulas work remotely or while traveling. As long as you can be on-call during your mentees' on-call windows, location is flexible.
