Family Stories

How postpartum support helped

Real families share their postpartum doula experience.

The postpartum support was invaluable. I don't know how I would have navigated those first weeks without my doula's guidance. She taught me everything about caring for my baby and helped me actually sleep.

We hired a postpartum doula for overnight support and it saved our sanity. Knowing someone capable was caring for our baby while we slept made all the difference in my recovery.

I was struggling with breastfeeding and feeling so overwhelmed. My postpartum doula helped me troubleshoot, held the baby so I could shower, and reminded me I was doing a good job. I needed that so much.

FAQ

Questions about postpartum support

Everything you need to know about postpartum doula care.

Most families start within the first week after birth, but you can begin anytime in the first few months. Some families book during pregnancy to ensure availability. The "fourth trimester" (first 12 weeks) is when support is most impactful.

Both provide newborn care, but postpartum doulas have a broader focus. We support your physical recovery, breastfeeding, emotional wellbeing, and help with light household tasks—not just baby care. We also support the whole family unit.

No—we support YOU in caring for your baby. Our goal is to build your confidence and skills as a parent, not create dependency. We teach, guide, and help, while you remain the primary caregiver and decision-maker.

Your doula arrives in the evening and stays through the night (typically 8-10 hours). She handles diaper changes, soothing, and either bottle feeds or brings baby to you for nursing. You wake up to a report on how the night went.

Postpartum doulas provide feeding support including latch help, positioning, pumping guidance, and troubleshooting common issues. For complex problems, we refer to IBCLCs (lactation consultants) and can coordinate with them.

Absolutely! We support all feeding choices. For formula-feeding families, we help with safe preparation, feeding schedules, bottle techniques, and everything else that comes with newborn care.

If you don't have family nearby, want to recover fully, value sleep, feel anxious about newborn care, have other children to care for, or simply want experienced guidance—postpartum support can help tremendously.

Postpartum support is especially valuable after C-sections since your mobility is limited. We help with baby care tasks you can't easily do while healing, support your incision care, and ensure you can rest while recovering from surgery.
